The House of Representatives voted 220 to 205 on Tuesday to extend government funding at existing levels through December 4, just before the midterm elections. Six Democrats joined Republicans to advance the bill, which now heads to the Senate where it will require Democratic support to clear the 60-vote threshold.

Democratic leaders opposed the extension, saying it "fails to block funding for Donald Trump's violent mass deportation machine." Speaker Mike Johnson criticized Democrats for trying to "score political points." The funding effort follows two record-setting government shutdowns during this Congress, including a 45-day total shutdown last year and a 76-day Department of Homeland Security shutdown earlier this year.
