The owner of the Jackdaw gas platform in the North Sea warns that UK government approval is "hyper critical" to avoid winter fuel shortages. Adura CEO Neil McCulloch told BBC News the project could meet 6% of UK gas needs from October 1, with wells drilled and systems ready. The regulator is reviewing revised applications after a court ruled previous approvals unlawful.

Environmental campaigners oppose the project, citing climate change and record heatwaves. McCulloch argues Jackdaw would produce only 0.02% of global emissions and is vital for energy security. The UK has limited gas storage, about eight days, increasing vulnerability to supply disruptions. Final decisions rest with Energy Secretary Ed Miliband, who opposes new fields.
