The final stage of the Tour de France has been shortened from 133km to 89km and rerouted due to wildfires in southwestern France. First responders and security forces have been redeployed to combat the blazes, forcing the race to start on the Champs-Elysees instead of Thoiry. The Amaury Sport Organisation stated that the Ministry of the Interior redirected security forces to reinforce firefighting efforts.
The newly designed stage will still end on the Champs-Elysees, with riders taking extra circuits and the Montmartre climb. Over 267,000 people have been evacuated from wildfires in France and Spain, with Bordeaux airport closed. Slovenia's Tadej Pogacar is set to secure a record-equalling fifth Tour de France title after dominating the race.
